As I read through other people’s blogs, I started thinking about how so many times teachers blame the students when something doesn’t go right (I think everyone can admit they have done this at least once). If the classroom is out of control or no one is focusing, it’s the student’s fault for not focusing. If students are not following the rules during times we use technology, they are being irresponsible. While some of it is that the students are being irresponsible, at least in the older grades, some of that blame has to fall on the teacher. We need to think to ourselves, are they not focusing because I’m not enforcing the rules and giving appropriate consequences, did I not explain what they were supposed to do clear enough, etc. That definitely made me think about how I think when my classes aren’t going exactly how I want them to go, is it because I’m not doing what I should be doing or because the students aren’t doing what they are supposed to be doing? I guarantee almost every time it is probably a combination of teacher and student misbehaviors. Nobody's perfect, so we can’t think as teachers we are always doing the right thing when it comes to classroom management, classroom interactions, etc.
I like that this class only has seven people in it. It allows us to be able to read everyone’s blog and make a comment, even if it’s short, in a reasonable amount of time. In previous classes that had about 15 people in them, I know for me personally, I didn’t take the time to read everyone’s blog every week because it took a lot of time and I was busy with work and other classes. I know I probably missed out on a large amount of good ideas.
